Ray Stephanson, mayor of the town of Everett, Washington must have been touched by childhood nostalgia when the Sesame Street Live show came to the city’s Comcast Arena May 7-9. He showed his support by renaming Hewitt Avenue, the street that the arena is on, to Sesame Street
in honor of Elmo, Big Bird, and all of their friends. Sesame Street is the longest running children’s program in television. It premiered in November of 1969 and was one of the first shows to combine education and entertainment. It was also one of the first with celebrity guests and
cultural references to make it interesting for both children and adults. What are
your memories of watching the show as a child?
