City of Albany renamed Student Ghetto

“The Zone” was the top suggestion of what to rename the section of Albany, New York known as the ‘student ghetto’, according to a recent internet poll.

Other suggestions include “Nomad”, because the area is NOrth of MADison Avenue, and The Quad. The City of Albany wants to rename the area, notorious for crime, in an attempt to improve its reputation. They hope without the ‘ghetto’ label, the neighborhood where many of the city’s college students live will change for the better. The new name is part of a broader effort to improve the downtrodden neighborhood. The idea is that people will be more willing to invest in a neighborhood if it has a positive and not derogatory name. Hope it goes well for them!
