The national Farmers Day in Ghana honors those make a living off the land with a celebration and an awards ceremony. However, those who make their livelihood from the sea are protesting that the day should honor them as well. Local fisherman have suggested that the
day be renamed National Farmers and Fishermen Day. Kow Kotu and Kwabena Donkor are
local fishermen who spoke recently to Joy News, and stated that they would also like to be recognized equally in the annual award celebration, as they say that the award given to ‘Best
Fisherman’ is not comparable to the one for ‘Best Farmer’.
