English Blue Square Bet South club Ebbsfleet United are considering renaming themselves to their former name Gravesend & Northfleet. The Kent based club changed
its name in 2007 when they signed a sponsorship deal with Eurostar, whose trains use nearby Ebbsfleet station. Club Chairman Phil Sonsara told the BBC: “It changed its name to accommodate the Ebbsfleet valley, there’s a lot of
history around Ebbsfleet that a lot of fans don’t appreciate.” “But I have to act in the best interest of the football club. If there’s enough groundswell to say Gravesend and Northfleet is what people prefer that’s fair enough. It would have to be driven by the fans.” The club won the FA Trophy in 2008 under the name Ebbsfleet United but the name also saw them relegated from The Blue Square Premier League in 2010.
