Minnesota Town Renames “Stoner Avenue” to Avoid Sign Thefts

In the Minnesota town of Bemidji, the street known as “Stoner Avenue” will soon be renamed, as city officials have become fed up with pot-smoking youth stealing the street sign and using it to adorn their bedrooms and basement hang out spaces.

City officials complained that they have spent nearly $2,000 per year continuously replacing the street sign, and no sooner is a new sign up than it is stolen again.

The city is considering changing the name of the street to Franklin Avenue. The name change will not be easy, as it means that residents of all 40 homes on the street formerly known as Stoner Avenue will have to go through the lengthy process of changing their address.
