The NSW Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell is in support of a motion to rename the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia after Dame Joan Sutherland, a famous Opera singer and performer who passed away in Switzerland on Monday night, aged 83. “I can’t think of a more fitting tribute,” O’Farrell told the Herald. The Opera House had a
very important part in Sutherland’s career. A native of Sydney, Dame Joan found international fame when she traveled to London after winning a singing competition in her hometown. The Government, along with Arts Minister Virginia Judge are engaging with the international opera star’s family to determine an appropriate way to commemorate her accomplishments and contributions.
