Washington, D. C. has no senators or full-voting members to represent it in the U.S. House of Representatives. Activists are protesting this fact by pushing to rename the famous Pennsylvania Avenue that runs past the White House and up to Capitol Hill in order to draw attention to this slight. They hope this symbolic name change will rally others around their
cause. The new names suggested range from “No Vote Street” to “Unconstitutional Avenue” to “Statehood Way”. Some residents, whose bumper stickers scream “Taxation without Representation” are irritated by the lack of full voting rights and believe that Washington, D.C. should become American’s first city-state.
