Google has announced that they will be building and testing a new superfast fiber-optic broadband network in a small number of communities around the United States. This has many cities competing to catch the attention of Google, including the mayor of Duluth, Minnesota jumping into freezing Lake Superior and Sarasota, Florida renaming one of it’s islands ‘Google Island’.
The city of Topeka, Kansas went the whole hog and renamed itself Google, Kansas for a month. Google responded to this by changing the name of the search engine on April Fools Day, 2010 to Topeka. Really, it’s true! If you want proof, just topeka it!
